Fifth grader Hong Chung Song, 4th graders Kim Song Il, Ri Kuk Song and Pak Il Bom and 3rd grader Han Kum Sok of the Faculty of Automation Engineering, 4th grader Nam Phyong Hyok of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and 1st graders Kim Kang Guk, Kim Song San and Rim Ju Song of the College of Information Science and Technology won special prizes in the contest held from Sep. 12 to 14, 2017 in Pyongyang University of Architecture.
The contest was participated in by 78 groups from 60-odd universities, including Pyongyang University of Architecture and the University of Sciences.
Like in the International Students’ Programming Contest, the competition was held in such a way that each group of 3 had to solve 10 easy and difficult problems such as that of calculating the days of the given dates, and those related to dynamic programming, divide and conquer, string processing, graph theory, data structure and solutions of simultaneously combinational equations.
Hong Chung Song, Kim Song Il and Kim Kang Guk of the 1st group put their heads together to solve the most difficult problems, which required the combination of graph theory and divide and conquer ahead of all other groups.
Ri Kuk Song, Pak Il Bom, Rim Ju Song of the 2nd group solved the complex problems preferentially, and Nam Phyong Hyok, Han Kum Sok and Kim Song San of the 3rd group helped one another to find answers to the problems presented.
As a result, students from Kim Chaek University of Technology solved the most problems, thus obtaining special prizes.

National Exhibition of Informatization Achievements 2017 sponsored by the National Informatization Administration was held in the Sci-Tech Complex from Sep. 7 to 11, 2017.
In the exhibition were presented business information system programs needed for making production and business activities intelligent, information-based, digitized, automatic and mechanized, production management system programs, auto-control system programs, education-aid programs and programs for smartphones. The ranking was decided depending on their levels of improvement.
The Information Technology Institute has a powerful information service capacity for managing in a unified way the entry and diffusion of software on a nationwide scale, ensuring the rapid and smooth circulation of the developed software. The institute presented over 20 valuable IT software including the “System of Diffusion and Protection of Software Products” displayed in the centre of the exhibition hall, the “Identification and Trace System Based on Image Identification Technique” reliably ensuring the identification and trace of video images, which is impossible with the help of electronic cards, and educational and scientific aided systems including “School Education Assessment System” which can judge the education leves of schools in a quantitative way, and “Online Foreign Launguage Examination System.”
High benefits and performances of these software competitive both at home and abroad drew the attention of visitors. The institute became one of the 10 best IT enterprises, and the university a model informatization unit, and they were awarded relevant diplomas and certificates.

Jo 0,
Time delay always exists in real processes due to the distribution of a system and the data transport and communication lags, which might lead to worse and even unstable system performance.
Particularly, measurement delay usually degrades the overall system performance, and therefore, this factor should be minimized as much as possible.
With the purpose of improving the performance and effectiveness of a control system taking into account the characteristics of model predictive control (MPC), one of the control methods widely used in practice, Kim Hun Chol, a researcher at the Faculty of Automation Engineering, has proposed a method of eliminating the influence of measurement delay and applied it to the typical nonlinear system, ball & plate system, by combining it with MPC.
He designed an augmented state observer for a nonlinear discrete-time system with measurement delay to estimate delay-perturbed term, and implemented the state feedback to eliminate it. Then, he combined it with MPC to verify the effectiveness of the entire control system via simulations by MATLAB and real experiments by applying it to the ball & plate system.
In addition, he applied MPC to the control of machines and found out that the control was smooth and there was no strong oscillation that affects servomotors.
